The Turn-Around

The time to be healthy starts from birth, whether it is eating your veggies and drinking enough water, or being active; However, somewhere down the path life happens, and in some cases, there can be one of many plunges. So is it too late to make an effort toward a healthier lifestyle once illness falls into the picture? Let’s just say the sooner the better in making changes and adjustments- never is never too late in being healthy.

In the case of a lung cancer patient (who smokes), do you think it makes a difference in quitting? Absolutely, why aggravate an already dire and serious situation? The same thought is referenced for adding exercise or some form of physical activity to your day-to-day. For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends these exercise guidelines: Aerobic activity. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity.

Sometimes the turn-around can be as simple as being sick being tired of being tired and ready for that change; usually, the idea of commitment, patience, and consistency is not so easy for everyone. There has to be allotted time when you feel that the turnaround is not only a necessity but essential to your well-being. So what should you consider in a step toward change?

S.M.A.R.T Method

Specific– What are your exact goals? Is this about losing weight, or overcoming levels of extreme fatigue?

Measurable-Can you account for the quantitative and qualitative aspects of what it is you want to achieve in your goal?

Achieve– Can you meet the goals you’ve set in place realistically? Have you considered a reasonable timeframe that allows you to succeed?

Relevant- Are you considering the goals that hold the most importance?

Time– Can you meet the goal in a reasonable time that makes sense?

Sometimes this is where a fail falls into play as sometimes our fitness journey is not realistic and we set ourselves up for failure by not seeing the picture realistically and considering what it takes in accomplishing the task.

Cheers!
